Healing smoothies for endometriosis

Lots of smoothie recipes are used for their healing benefits.  The raw ingredients used in smoothies have the bonus for your health  because they maintain all the vitamins, minerals and enzymes.


Also, if your appetite is affected by endometriosis and you suffer from nausea then drinking smoothies will help provide you with the nutrients you need, and can also help heal your digestive system.


Ideally it is best to include ingredients that address the symptoms of endometriosis like the pain and also to help manage the inflammation.  As well as maintaining the vital enzymes, raw food smoothies will help to heal your gut flora and maintain a healthy digestive system and assist with healthy bowels.

Great Healing Smoothie 

This is a great smoothie for anyone who has any stomach issues. This drink has soothing qualities which protect and heal the stomach lining. The stomach can take a bashing if you have been taking many pain meds or medical hormone treatments.

Ingredients:
  • 1 firm kiwi fruit, peeled
  • 1/4 cantaloupe, with skin
  • 1 ripe banana 

Process kiwi fruit and cantaloupe through a juice extractor. Place juice and banana in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. 



Anti-inflammatory Berry Smoothie

Using plenty of ginger gives this the great anti-inflammatory benefits and is also good for gut health.

Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons hemp protein powder
  • 2 cups of leafy greens (kale, romaine, spinach, chard, etc.)
  • 1 cup of celery
  • 1 cup of mixed frozen berries of your choice (strawberries, blueberries, cranberries, etc)
  • 2 inch piece of ginger (peeled if not organic)
  • ½ cup filtered water

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth - about 1 minute

Serve immediately - can be stored in airtight container for up to 1 day




Orange and Papaya Shake


This juicing recipe will act as an aid for indigestion. 

Ingredients:
  • 1 orange, peeled (leave white pithy part on)
  • ½ papaya peeled
  • 1 banana
  • Orange twist for garnish

Juice orange with papaya. Place juice and banana into a blender or food processor, and blend until smooth.  Garnish with the orange twist.




Anti-inflammatory pain relief smoothie

Ingredients:
  • 1 stick celery
  • 1/2 cup diced cucumber
  • 1/2 lime wedge - peeled
  • 1 cup coconut water

Put all ingredients into a blender and blitz - ready to serve

All the ingredients of this smoothie help to reduce inflammation in the body, and have a “cooling effect” as well. Pineapple is well known for it’s well-known pain relieving enzyme of Bromelain.



Liver Flush tonic

Not so much of a smoothie - but worth mentioning here for its health benefits. Keeping your liver working well will help to flush out the excess estrogens from your system.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 Lemon juice
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground turmeric
  • 30 drops artichoke extract (optional)

Put all ingredients in a glass and drink while warm


You will find many great smoothie recipes in books and on-line, that  will help with the inflammation and pain of endometriosis. You can adapt most of the recipes to suit your taste.  You will need to have a good quality food blender to make your smoothies, and it you want to go on a real heath blitz you can get yourself a juicer.

You can also add to your basic smoothie  to make it more of a meal by adding protein powders and additional ingredients like chia seeds which will add protein plus loads of nutrients.  Chia seeds are also high in omega 3,  which is the good oil that helps to reduce inflammation.

Other ways to turn your smoothie into a meal is to add oats, ground flax seeds or hemp seeds.  Just try experimenting and you will find your favourite smoothie recipes.

Smoothies will be a great support for your diet  when you feel too poorly with  endometriosis pain, bloating or fatigue to make proper meals, but you will gain plenty of the health and nutrition benefits.
