It took me a long time to find out what was causing me so much pain. I had had many doctors tell me it was "all in my head" and I finally went online to find answers and decided from my symptoms I probably had endometriosis. Laparoscopy confirmed it Jan of 2008. I felt pretty hopeless as supposedly there was no cure and hormonal treatments caused terrible side effects. When I had had enough of Western medicine i went back to trying alternatives. We present this case because the conventional medical approaches to infertility due to endometriosis are extreme--surgery, hormone-prescribing, or the inducing of premature menopause. This case is an excellent reminder of how gen-tle, yet powerful, homeopathy can be. Lucy, age 29, came in on November 26, 1991 with endometriosis. She had undergone laparoscopic surgery a year and a half earlier to remove endometrial tissue in the area of the rectum and tailbone. She had been infertile for the previous three years and wanted very much to have a child. She had miscarried three and a half years earlier. Although she had been ingesting significant amounts of alcohol during the pregnancy, subsequently she was in recovery and free of alcohol. Lucy told her story as follows: “My PMS is ridiculous. I get really critical and do not tolerate other people's imperfections. I try not to take it out on others, but inside, I'm convinced that they're idiots! I can't even stand the way my husband breathes. I snap at my husband and tell him to give me my space.” Elaborating on her severe PMS, Lucy recounted the following: “I have massive water retention. My eyelids get puffy, and my abdomen bloats. My breasts become terribly sore, and my uterus feels heavy--like a rock. I have an awareness of the ligament that goes to my ovary during sex before my period, as well as low back pain. It feels as if all the blood has been drawn out of my back. I also feel a sharp pain inside my rectum then and also when I bear down during a bowel movement. My periods are regular now. I was bulimic for about five years. I didn't have any periods for four of those years. At that time, I flowed heavily for three or four days. I had to put in a tampon every hour or two. Lucy had been diagnosed with anemia beginning at age 12 and often had to take iron. Upon further questioning, she informed us that her ankle fracture did not heal quickly. During cold, snowy weather, it felt as if an ice cube were sitting in the middle of her foot exactly where it was fractured. She had also suffered from severe nosebleeds, lasting up to four hours, as a child. These continued, with some frequency, until she was 22 years old. Lucy also reported a tendency to bruise easily. She also experienced an unusually frequent number of dental cavities while growing up. Lucy expressed a great fear of spiders. In fact, she would sweat, shake, and become paralyzed upon seeing a spider on television. She couldn't even talk about them. Lucy also feared that her husband would leave her, and she could become quite jealous, even though he gave her no reason to mistrust him. Towards the end of the case-taking, Lucy remarked that she experienced tremendous trauma at 12 years of age when her parents separated: “It was horrible for me. My world blew apart. There were four of us. That's when I started doing drugs. I quit high school in my senior year and got my G.E.D. My father is still alcoholic. My mother is from an alcoholic family. All three of my siblings are in recovery." have pain during my cycles, but it was only really bad pain for a day or two. I finally grew tired and worried about
being on the birth control for so many years, especially since it was not completely helping me with the unbearable
